Over 20 NUP supporters arrested for demanding Sipapa’s arrest

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, has confirmed the arrest of 20 National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters, for carrying out an illegal procession demanding for the arrest of Charles Olima aka Sipapa.

On September 17, NUP supporters  who were dressed in their red outfit stormed Kamwokya streets holding placards as they chanted and shouted, demanding for the arrest of Sipapa, following two scenarios that included shooting.

The group that was mobilised by Mr. Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, blocked Old Kira road, with logs, stones before burning tyres.

“Today the 17/9/2020 at around 11:30 hours National Unity Platform (People Power) supporters dressed in their red attire in a group of about 40 mobilized by Mr Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu,” Onyango said.

“The group carried out a procession holding placards, demanding for the arrest of Charles Olima alias Sipapa for the two incidents of shooting of the 30th August and 15th September 2020 at their offices at Contafrica zone Kamwokya II Parish Central Division in Kampala City,” Onyango said in a statement.

Onyango said that the arrested people will be charged with illegal procession, and their files will be sent to Director of Public prosecution.
Police has resorted order in the area and business has returned to normal.

He however urged NUP supporters to use the right Government institutions that can handle their grievances, rather than taking the law in their hands.

On September 16, Sipapa and his armed fellows attacked and shot at NUP Secretariat, where they injured one of the security guards known as Ronnie.

Sipapa, had gone to Kamwokya to give machines which he was donating to the youths, like water pumps, car washing machines and uniforms.

Trouble came in when he tried to hoist the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag, an act that sparked off the conflict between him and NUP supporters.
