Ugandan MPs will on March 25 convene for a special sitting to elect a new speaker following the demise of Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.
On March 20, President Museveni announced that Speaker Oulanyah has died. (Read Story Here).
As we reported earlier, no parliamentary business can take place other than the election of the speaker if the position falls vacant. (Read Story Here).
Addressing reporters in Kampala today, information minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi announced that cabinet had set March 25 as the date for election of Oulannya’s replacement.
This means that by end of Friday, Uganda’s Parliament will have a new speaker.
