BOBI WINE = KYAGULANYI
National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine says he sought to prove to President Yoweri Museveni’s security officers that they cannot manage keeping him under house arrest at his home in Wakiso District’s Magere area.
While the state has deployed security officers at Bobi Wine’s Magere home ahead of the start of Thursday’s protests against poor city road infrastructure characterized by potholes, Bobi Wine managed to escape to plant banana tubers in Katwe, Kampala.
His supporters surrounded him, chanting his name and singing his praises. After planting a banana tuber, Bobi Wine took a motorcycle taxi or boda boda and left the scene.
Now, the singer and politician is joking that while security guarded his home to prevent Kyagulanyi from leaving his home, Bobi Wine managed to escape.
“The military and police are at Magere making sure Kyagulanyi doesn’t get out. Bobi Wine is in the city,” Bobi Wine wrote.
Bobi Wine is the stage name the youthful Museveni opponent used in his prime days as a top singer. It has followed him in the political arena, granting him the much needed name recognition among the new pack of first time presidential candidates in the 2021 election.
He has also said that it is high time, Museveni’s government should taste how difficult it is to deal with Bobi Wine – and not Kyagulanyi the politician (speaking to the dilemma of dealing with two personalities – the Rastafarian and a politician expected to be civil).
Bobi Wine also said that even when security blocks him from protesting, he is certain Ugandans will do it. The protests are part of activities by the United Forces of Change (UFC) that includes veteran opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
Besigye has on several occasions also beaten security, escaped from his Kasangati home and headed to the city centre to protest. (Read Story Here).
