OMUKAMA HEALTH CONDITION: Bunyoro Kingdom PM Omuhikirwa Byakutaaga Speaks Out as Museveni Intervenes

President Yoweri Museveni has intervened in the health matters of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom monarch Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I. The Omukama health condition has prompted his airlifting to Kampala for better treatment.

Museveni sent a presidential helicopter to airlift Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I from Hoima City to Kampala. The presidential helicopter brought the Bunyoro-Kitara king to Kampala on Thursday, 17 October 2024.

The decision to airlift King Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I was reached after President Museveni sent his personal doctor to examine the Omukama health condition and advise on the way forward regarding treatment of the monarch.

When Museveni’s doctor met Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I at his Karuziika Palace in the City of Hoima, it is said that the king had flu and cough but the latter would reportedly intensify, leading his family and officials to take a decision for him to seek better treatment in Kampala.

On October 03, 2024, Justice Jesse Byaruhanga of the Hoima High Court ruled in favour of an application by Apollo Kisoro, a former tourism minister and Omukama Gafabusa’s ex-personal assistant, seeking orders to compel the kingdom to fly the king out of the country for specialized treatment.

After a decade of waiting, court ruled in favour of Kisoro.

BUNYORO KINGDOM SPEAKS OUT

Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, the Bunyoro Kingdom Omuhikirwa or Prime Minister, has confirmed that indeed the Omukama has been airlifted to Kampala for specialized treatment.

“Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom hereby informs the general public that His Royal Majesty Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara has been airlifted to Kampala for medication,” Omuhikirwa Byakutaga said.

“The King regularly gets medical attention whenever need arises. The process  has been coordinated by his office and  family. RA Omukama has arrived safely in Kampala.”

The Omukama was in company of Omugo Margaret Karunga Adyeeri and Prince Richard Kitehimbwa, who is also the Minister of Palace Affairs and his Principal Private Secretary PPS.

Omukama Gafabusa has been reported sick in recent years to the extent of missing major kingdom events. (See Details Here).
