There was shock as the body of a businessman in the city of Jinja was found decomposing in a sugarcane plantation.
The body of George Waidha, a resident of Busuyi village, Wairasa Sub County, Mayuge District was was found without the businessman’s head and private parts, leaving residents in fear that this could have been an act of ritual sacrifice.
Killers went away with Waidha’s private parts and head, and left a scary beheaded and mutilated body to decompose in a sugarcane plantation. According to Busoga East Police, some other body parts were found near a pool of blood a few meters from the headless body.
Police has now begun investigating the murder of Waidha, a businessman who owned a large sugarcane farm and ran a hardware shop. Waidha had businesses in both Mayuge Town and Jinja City.
His family members started getting worried after he disappeared on April 29. They would later report to police, filing a ‘missing person’ file at Mayuge Police Station. Attempts to search for Waidha through local radio announcements and social media posts bore no fruit.
The search would later come to an end on May 08 after casual workers informed the family that they had seen a decomposing dead body in a sugarcane plantation. A day earlier, relatives say, stray dogs had been sighted in the plantation, raising suspicion that something dead could be therein.
Some family members had no trouble identifying Waidha’s body since they could recognize some of his clothes. The ritual murderers had also left Waidha’s identity cards in his trouser pockets.
Police would later convey Waidha’s remains to Mayuge Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem. The businessman’s killers remain unknown. But Busoga sub-region, where Mayuge and Jinja are situated, is a hotbed of ritual murders.
But ritual killings are not only an issue for Busoga. In September 2020, there was shock at Parliament of Uganda as a man wrapped a baby’s head as a gift, reportedly meant, for the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga. (Read Story Here).
