Kampala deputy lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura has spoken out on claims that she plans to contest against Erias Lukwago in the 2021 general elections.
Posters of Nyanjura announcing her bid for Kampala mayor circulated online at the weekend, raising speculation that she could be preparing to face Lukwago in next year’s election.
Months ago, Lukwago picked Nyanjura to replace Sarah Kanyike who is now the minister of state in charge of the elderly and people with disabilities in the ministry of gender, labour and social development.

The race for Kampala mayor seat has raised a lot of dust in main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
Kampala Woman MP Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala even claimed the FDC was ring fencing its ticket for Lukwago, a non-member of the party.

Lukwago recently joined the FDC, whose members he had been close to for years. He is also the deputy president in main opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye’s People’s Government (PG).
Nyanjura, Lukwago’s deputy, is also a minister in PG and a leader in the FDC. Reports of her plans to unseat Lukwago had raised debate online.
But the KCCA councillor representing Makerere University has dismissed the Kampala mayor campaign poster in her names as fake.
“I intend to go back to Makerere to seek a second and probably last mandate as Councilor for the period 2021-2026. Let those acting out of ill intention know that Kampala has Omuloodi and that Omuloodi waali!” responded Nyanjura.
She described the people who had designed and circulated the poster as “ill-intentioned.”
