NuweAbine replaces Kaujju as KCCA Spokesperson

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has appointed Daniel Muhumuza NuweAbine as acting spokesperson.

NuweAbine will succeed Peter Kaujju as the interim Head of Public and Corporate Affairs.

Last month, Kaujju left KCCA after serving as spokesperson for nine years. He is now head of communication at power distributor Umeme.

On the same day KCCA unveiled NuwAbine and announced he would start work immediately, Umeme officially introduced Kaujju.

“He [Kaujju] comes with a wealth of experience in communication, stakeholder engagement and partnerships,” said Umeme in a statement.

“He is passionate about public relations and we are happy to have him on the team.”

Back at KCCA, management did not reveal for how long NuweAbine will act.

Recently, President Yoweri Museveni shook up the top leadership at the authority.

He appointed Dorothy Kisaka as Executive Director, replacing Eng Andrew Kitaka who was acting ED since iron lady Jennifer Musisi quit.

Museveni also picked Eng David Luyimbazi Ssali to deputise Kisaka, a governance advisor to Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda.

Other appointed were: Dr Daniel Okello Ayen (Director Public Health and Environment), Grace Akullo (Director, Human Resources and Administration) and Sarah Kanyike.

Kanyike, hitherto the deputy lord mayor, quit her job to become Director for Gender and Community Services.

Lord mayor Erias Lukwago has since appointed Makerere Councillor Doreen Nyanjura as his deputy.

It was the shakeup at KCCA that some claim made Kaujju seek another job. Kaujju had reportedly got wind of the changes before Museveni announced them.

The Public Service Commission is yet to approve the appointments.

Recently, Kampala Minister Betty Amongi asked Kitaka to return to office awaiting the appointees’ approval.

It remains to be seen if the Kisaka-led team will formally appoint NuweAbine in acting capacity once it takes charge.

Before this appointment, NuweAbine was the substantive Supervisor for Guidelines and Public Awareness at KCCA.

He had held this position since 2016.
