The National Unity Platform (NUP) Member of Parliament representing Makindye West, Allan Ssewanyana, has been rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition, the main opposition political party’s officials say.
Ssewanyana, who has been on remand in Luzira Prison’s Murchison Bay, is said to have been rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital after his health condition worried health workers at the rehabilitation facility.
Ssewanyana had reportedly developed lung complications, a condition his colleagues at NUP say requires specialized treatment in order to save the life of the embattled youthful first time legislator.
NUP politicians, including party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, were denied access to Ssewanyana’s ward, a place said to be ably guarded.
But Ssewanyana’s lawyer and Kampala Capital City lord mayor Erias Lukwago was allowed to see his client. Ssewanyana has reportedly been admitted at the facility since Friday.
“We visited Mulago Hospital to check on Hon. Allan Ssewanyana who has been admitted there in a critical condition since Friday. Unfortunately, the police blocked us from accessing him. The continued persecution of our people is being recorded. Justice will be served some day,” said Bobi Wine after being blocked from seeing the MP.
For over a year now, Ssewanyana and his Kawempe North counterpart have been battling murder charges in relation to the Masaka killings. They have been denied bail. (See Details Here).
