Busiro North National Unity Platform (NUP) MP-elect Paul Nsubuga is in detention over theft of a mobile phone worth Shs80,000.
Nsubuga defeated junior minister for Luweero Triangle Denis Ssozi Galabuzi in the January 14 parliamentary elections.
Police detectives picked Nsubuga from Kampala Serena Hotel on March 13.
He is currently in detention at the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS).
The stolen phone is a itel 5625, silver in color.
It reportedly went missing from Inseria Properties Nakasero, Kampala on June 03, 2019.
The complainant, Gloria Namengo of Kawempe, was using the phone for mobile money transactions.
Namengo and police claim CCTV cameras caught Nsubuga in the act.
She further alleges that Nsubuga had come as a mobile money customer, only to steal her phone.
Namengo also claims that the transactional phone Nsubuga stole also had Shs4.5m in float on the Airtel line therein.
“He entered the shop pretending to be one of our clients, holding a Nokia cellphone, and sat in the chair as we worked on him,” alleged Namengo in her statement at police.
“We deposited the cash on his account. As we were busy, he stood up and placed one of the cellular cash cellphones that was on the desk in his pocket and left.”
But the youthful MP-elect denies these claims.
