NTV Uganda’s Agnes Nandutu picks NRM nomination forms for Bududa Woman MP seat

NTV Uganda People’s Parliament show host Agnes Nandutu has picked NRM nomination forms for the Bududa Woman parliamentary seat.

Nandutu paid Shs2m for the forms at the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Kampala on July 24.

AGNES NANDUTU PROFILE

Nandutu has reported politics for NTV Uganda and was the president of the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association  from 2011 to 2016.

She also hosts, as speaker, a citizen debate called ‘NTV People’s Parliament.’ She has also written scripts and made narrations for Friday prime time news satirical segment ‘Point Blank.’

Nandutu started her journalism career at Radio Uganda in 1997 as a reporter before she earned a diploma from Uganda Institute of Journalism and Media studies.

After her diploma, she joined Daily Monitor as a freelance writer, before leaving for Impact FM as a staff reporter in 2002. Six years later, Nandutu joined NTV Uganda.

AGNES NANDUTU BUDUDA CHALLENGER JUSTINE KHAINZA

Social worker Justine Khainza, aged 38, is the current Bududa Woman Representative in Uganda’s 10th Parliament.

Khainza joined parliament in 2011. She is a member of the NRM party whose flag Nandutu wants to hold in next year’s parliamentary elections.

Nandutu and Khainza will face off in the NRM primaries.

Besides being coordinator of Mt Elgon Christian Fellowship Association, Bududa, and a trainee at Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Khainza didn’t have much experience when she won a parliamentary seat.

In her decade-long representation of Bududa, Khainza has been a member on the committees of agriculture, and budget, among others.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in development studies from Makerere University and a master’s in  Public Health Leadership from Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono.

Nandutu joins the growing list of media practitioners who have quit their jobs to try politics.

Recently, Vision Group show host Yedidia Nyakahangura resigned his job for a parliamentary contest.

Former journalists in Uganda’s 10^th parliament include Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda (Kira Municipality) and Betty Nambooze Bakireke (Mukono Municipality).
