The renown Daily Monitor Journalist Perez Rumanzi on Friday was nominated for MP seat Ntungamo Municipality on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Ticket.
Rumanzi who joined Daily Monitor in 2006 has been reporting for the same organization based in Ntungamo district where he has always showed his skills putting the government on spotlight.
Rumanzi who previously worked for Red pepper between 2004 and 2006 in Mbarara also worked with Radio West in the Owakutangaheru program and radio play Binshobire.
Rumanzi will have to win current Ntungamo Municiplaity MP Gerald Karuhanga who recently joined The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and former MP Yonah Musinguzi who is on National Resistance Movement ticket.
The others are Bishanga Moses Kafumba, Ampereza Hillary and Edward Beyendeza Bekunda who are all independents after failing to win in NRM primary elections.
Addressing after his nomination, Rumanzi promised to agitate for the restoration of the age limit which was removed by parliament to allow president Museveni lead the could beyond 75 years.
”It was regrettable for the removal of term and age limits in the 1995 constitution but promise to agitate for its restoration” said Rumanzi
He challenged fellow journalists across the country to involve in active politics saying that it’s high time for them to participate because there was time for poetry, writers, and musicians in Apartheid in South Africa and now it’s time for journalists to contribute a brick to the development of their country.
Other journalists nominated included Namanya Santrina Kachene as independent candidate For Ruhama East county, former Manager Boona FM in Rukungiri district pledged to advocate for the less privileged people especially the voters of Ruhaama East County who have been left behind for so long.
One candidate Herbert Muhangi was turned away by Ntungamo district returning officer Beine Robert for coming beyond 5PM.
