The secretary general of Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Justine Kasule Lumumba, has contracted Covid19.
Days ago, Lumumba went into self-isolation after her aides tested positive for the deadly viral respiratory disease that has claimed the lives of 206 Ugandans as of December 05, 2020.
Uganda’s cumulative infection toll stands at 22,188 while 9,117 patients have fully recovered.
According to NRM treasurer and ex-information minister Rosemary Namayanja Nsereko, Lumumba’s health condition is not worrying.
“Our party Secretary General has tested positive for COVID-19 Pandemic and but she is stable with no serious symptoms. The party business however will go on uninterrupted despite her physical absence from office,” Namayanja told reporters in Kampala during the party’s weekly briefing on the progress of presidential flag bearer Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s campaign.
Namayanja appealed to all politicians from both the NRM and the opposition to “carry out periodic tests on Covid19 and open up if found positive to save there would be contacts from being victimized by their silence.”
Uganda’s Covid19 infections increased after Museveni relaxed prevention restrictions.
The election season’s meetings have not helped the situation.
