Four National Resistance Movement (NRM) registrars in Kanungu district, have been sacked for misusing the village youth allowances, delaying the election materials to the polling stations, delaying the results to the tally centre, among other cases.
The Kanungu NRM district registrar Alex Turyahikayo, says the four were fired on September 11, after a meeting with the district party officials, who asked for an immediate action against the suspects.
He said the fired registrars committed the crimes in the recently concluded NRM primary elections for Members of Parliament which were conducted on September 04.
The sacked members are Moreen Arineitwe of Kihihi Town council, Midred Tushabomise of Rugyeyo sub-county, Constance Tukahirwa of Kambuga sub-county and Robert Magara of Butogota Town council.
Turyahikayo says that Magara embezzled shs 1.5 million, which was supposed to be given to the youth committees in Butogota Town council. Magara however admitted the offence, claiming that the party had not paid him for his services.
According to Alex Turyahikayo, he says that the NRM constitution grants him authority to sack and replace any party official who contrally acts to the party rules.
“I have replaced them to allow the process of voting for local council flag bearers to successfully continue.” Alex said
The NRM party is conducting the primary elections at different levels, so that they can have the flag bearers, who will contest with candidates from other political parties, in the 2021 general elections.
