The reports were carried by government newspaper The New Vision.

Opposition NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine quickly claimed the move was meant to help Museveni’s son ascend to power since, according to the singer-turned-politician, the first son could not get even 5% of popular vote.

Now, GCW Tayebwa, also Ruhinda North MP (NRM) has said the ruling party’s caucus has not been briefed about the proposed amendments.

But he added that he believed there would be adequate consultations on the proposals. He also expressed his support for the proposed amendments, making it clear he sees nothing wrong with the move.

“As NRM Caucus we are yet to receive this proposal. Once proposed, full consultations will be made with stakeholders,” said Tayebwa.

“However we must appreciate that the proposed system is one of the known political systems practiced by successful democracies like Great Britain, Italy, Canada etc.”
