No lockdown: I just came to alert you, says Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has warned Ugandans to take Covid19 prevention measures seriously, revealing that the national taskforce would meet next week to discuss measures to prevent the spread of Covid19.

The taskforce meeting will happen on Wednesday.

The president urged Ugandans not to visit Covid19 hotspots of Kampala and Wakiso.

Museveni also said the situation was not as bad as in other countries.

“The situation is not so bad yet,” he noted.

“God likes us, Uganda; there must be some reason.”

But he added the failure was countries hugely affected by coronavirus had failed to control the numbers.

He reiterated how big numbers would oveewhelm the health system and make it difficult to concentrate on patients.

“When people die in big numbers, don’t say I didn’t tell you,” he cautioned.

“I came here to sound a warning that we are entering a dangerous phase.”

The president didn’t announce a three-week lockdown as the national Covid19 taskforce had recommended.

New measures are expected towards the end of next week.
