Emyooga National Coordinator Rita Namuwenge has announced an operation against Emyooga defaulters, some of whom refused to pay because they subscribe to President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Namuwenge, who sounded tough on defaulters, said she wasn’t ready to look at political party membership of defaulters but rather to compel them to government, which in this case is the lender.
She described as enemies of government all the Emyooga money borrowers who took advantage of the strength of the NRM party to swindle money that is supposed to revolve among group members.
In Kasese, at least 10 defaulters were arrested. These included Selevano Mulhondi, the Kasese Municipal NRM chairperson, and Alex Kwatambora, the former Kasese Municipal Speaker.
Mulhondi and Kwatampora reportedly reminded the Emyooga recovery team that had come to arrest them yesterday that they are true, big and untouchable NRM leaders and therefore beyond arrest.
Mulhondi, who had earlier exchanged with the recovery team but later committed himself before his release from Kasese Division Police, told The Pearl Times that the two-year lockdown had affected the recovery plans. He also explained that the operation should not be hinged on party politics or political statements.
Wilson Ngene, the Kasese District Emyoga Coordinator, called for voluntary refund of the money for the progress of the Emyooga programs. Kasese District Resident Commissioner emphasized calls on the defaulters to pay since the money was not meant for misuse.
