NO DEAL: NRM CEC meeting pushed to Sunday morning after top organ failed to choose between Oulanyah and Kadaga

Ruling NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) members failed to agree on who, between Jacob Oulanyah and Rebecca Kadaga, should be the party’s candidate for the 11th Parliament speaker.

The May 22 meeting, that began three hours later than had been planned, dragged on for hours at State House Entebbe.

But members of NRM CEC failed to agree on candidates for the speaker and deputy speaker positions.

With the ruling party’s top organ failing to resolve key questions, particularly that of who should be the speaker candidate, the meeting was adjourned to May 23.

The Sunday meeting, a continuation of Saturday’s, will begin at 8am.

This will be just three hours before the start of the parliamentary caucus which will vote between Kadaga and Oulanyah – but it is CEC which has to endorse these two and present them to NRM MPs.

The Caucus is expected to convene at 11am and results should be in by 2pm, if the communication by the NRM Electoral Commission (EC) is anything to go by.

This means that as the NRM CEC meeting resumes at 8am, party MPs will be trooping into State House Entebbe for the crucial parliamentary caucus vote.
