Gen Jeje Odongo, the minister of foreign affairs of Uganda, on July 16 morning received credentials of Susan Ngongi Namondo, the new the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator for Uganda at the Ministry’s headquarters.
Namondo took up this assignment as the UN Resident Coordinator in Uganda in June 2021, succeeding Rosa Malango who served in this position from 2019.
Namondo was the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Eritrea from 2017 to 2021.
Minister Odongo welcomed Namondo and appreciated the UN for tremendously working with the government, acknowledging that this partnership has been key for Uganda to progressively strive to attain the sustainable developmentevelopment.
He also appreciated the interventions coordinated by the Resident Coordinator’s office and implemented by the different UN agencies supporting government of Uganda as key and for supporting uganda’s projects for fighting COVID-19 pandemic and so achieve in creating opportunities for empowerment, protect the environment, build strategic partnerships, and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
The new boss for UN in Uganda thanked the Minister for the warm reception upon her arrival in Uganda and expressed optimism that her tenure of service as the Resident Coordinator would further strengthen the relations for the mutual benefit of both parties.
She also explained that her focus will be to strategically lead and position the United Nations Country Team in Uganda to respond to the current national priorities, mainly to Uganda’s Vision 2040, and the third National Development Plan .
