Ruling NRM chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has ordered Party Electoral Commission boss Dr Fred Tanga Odoi to start receiving applications for MPs interested in the speaker and deputy speaker positions in the 11th Parliament.
A statement by the party said Dr Tanga Odoi’s office would start receiving applications tomorrow, May 05.
“NRM Electoral Commission calls upon party members that are interested in the speakership and deputy speakership positions of the 11th parliament to pick interest forms from the NRM electoral commission starting tomorrow,” read a statement by the NRM.
In past Parliaments, interested NRM candidates would not go through the EC process.
All they required was an endorsement by the NRM CEC.
Jacob Oulanyah: I trust NRM CEC process
But party chairman President Museveni seems to be planning to use this process to restore sanity in the NRM, and clip the wings of some powerful candidates.
In April, Museveni banned speakership campaigns after main contenders incumbent Rebecca Kadaga and her deputy Jacob Oulanyah started tearing each other, washing some really dirty linen in public.
