Uganda Police Force (UPF) says it has instituted a probe task team to investigate an incident in which students, who are now believed to be from Lubiri High School, were filmed ‘dancing themselves’ in a Midland High School bus.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the task team is headed by the UPF Commissioner in charge of Gender.
Speaking at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on June 13, Enanga said the force was “actively investigating” the incident in which students were captured on camera performing questionable dances and bad manners.
The publicist also revealed that police would soon release the video tracking the bus’ movements to prove that the students were from Lubiri High School.
“The students were being transported in a bus that belonged to Midland High School. We have established that the management of Lubiri High School hired a school bus from Midland High School to transport a group of students to the Agricultural show in Jinja,” said Enanga.
“Our investigation is going to zero on Lubiri High School because we have footage of the bus from Midland High School to Lubiri and then taking them to the agricultural show in Jinja. We shall share the footage once it is ready.”
The police spokesperson also reminded students to remember the purpose for which they have been taken to school. He also urged school bosses to be vigilant and to boost their supervision.
“As our inquiries continue into the incident by school students in the Midland bus, we want to use this opportunity to remind students that they are expected to behave at school or outside school,” Enanga advised.
“The purpose of taking them to school is to study according to the school curriculum and not behaving in inappropriate manners. We also call upon all schools to reactivate their supervision plans in internal and external learning environments.”
