Salary increment for government employees will be implemented in a phased manner, starting with scientists and health workers, a government budget document indicates.

The proposed increments have left many people wondering if government will really fulfill this pledge and increase salaries by very high amounts.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija recently said the money for increasing teachers’, doctors’ and other civil servants’ salaries was available. (Read Story Here).

According to the national budget framework paper for the 2022-2023 financial year, government will increase salaries for government employees in a phased manner.
“Phased salary enhancement for scientists, health workers and all other categories in the public service” is one of the key areas of focus for public service in the next financial year which starts in July 2022.
“In line with the strategy of the Government to catalyze industrialization, the Government is finalizing the computation of the requirements for phased salary enhancement for scientists and health workers who are engaged in research and innovation, the implementation of which will commence in the FY2022/23,” reads the budget framework paper.
