Nambooze: FDC in IPOD for money

Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has said Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and other parties in the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) are only after money.

IPOD brings together political parties with representation in Parliament.

Current members include the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Democratic Party (DP), FDC, JEEMA, NRM and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

But the FDC has always shunned summits attended by NRM chairman and Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni.

The party has indeed vowed to skip Friday’s summit.

According to deputy secretary general for administration Harold Kaija, the FDC “hasn’t seen anything tangible out of IPOD.”

The party has previously said besides photo ops and tea with Museveni, the summit is a waste of time, further claiming that the NRM government was not committed to reforms.

Now, according to Nambooze, FDC is after financial gains from IPOD, and are afraid of losing support by sitting to dialogue with Museveni.

“FDC and all other political parties are in IPOD for the money,” Nambooze said during an NBS political show.

“FDC has maintained its support based on hatred for Museveni. When he comes to IPOD, they flee.”

Nambooze is a member of opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
