Former minister without portfolio Hajji Abdul Nadduli can now breathe a sigh of relief after 10 members of his family were finally released from detention following their panic-causing arrest on the morning of Tuesday, November 08, 2022.
The 10 relatives of the former minister and ex-National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war comrade of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni that had been arrested included Sulayiman Nadduli, Yusuf Jakana, Isma Ssenkubuge, Kassim Kyanjo, Jamadda Mugga, Muhamad Lubuulwa, Mwamini Nalubulwa, and Rehema Nakungu.
The 10 were picked in groups: some at about 3AM – 4AM, and others hours later at about 8AM. They were picked from their homes in Semuto in the Central Uganda District of Kapeeka and driven in a ‘drone vehicle’ and another private vehicle. Their whereabouts were unknown but it later emerged they had been arrested by operatives of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). See more on the arrest of Nadduli’s family members Here.
Those arrested were later released and have since returned to their homes, according to several reports. The 10 were reportedly set free without any charge. Ugandan security agencies were yet to explain why they had arrested the members of the former ministers family but some reports suggested that they were arrested over missing guns that criminals took away with when unknown assailants recently attacked Busiika Police Station and killed two police officers.
It should be remembered that following the Busiika Police Station attack, the administration of Uganda Police Force announced new changes, including closure of several police stations. (See Details Here).
The arrest and detention, by CMI, of Nadduli’s family members came a few weeks following the death of the former minister’s son Jakana Nadduli after his release from detention on charges of promoting sectarianism against Banyankore and Banyarwanda tribes. There was chaos during Jakana’s burial as angry mourners beat up an NRM activist like a chicken thief. It was also not clear if the arrests were related to this chaos.
Following the death of his son (who was slowly becoming a critic of Museveni), ex-minister Nadduli reportedly demanded to know what wrong he died to Museveni and his family ‘to deserve this.’ (See Details Here).
