Mutebile’s Widow Betty Begs Museveni: Don’t Chase Us from Late BoU Governor’s Official House

Betty Mutebile, the widow of Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, the late Governor of the Bank of Uganda (BoU), has asked President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his government not to throw her the family out of the former civil servant’s official residence in Kololo, Kampala.

On January 27, a special sitting of Parliament was held to pay tribute to Mutebile.

But the body of the former BoU governor was not brought to Parliament as expected. (Read story here).

Nevertheless, the session went on.

During the sitting, Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany asked government to allow the remaining members of the Mutebile family to retain their home in Kololo.

The residence, an official home for the BoU governor, is a government property.

MP Silwany was concerned that the family of the late Governor Mutebile may not know where to shift to next.

It has since emerged that Governor Mutebile didn’t build a house in Kampala.

But deputy speaker Anita Among, who presided over the special sitting, informed Silwany that Mutebile’s widow Betty had already made the request during a vigil at the Kololo residence on January 26.

After the vigil, Among had asked Government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa “to make sure that the official residence is given to the family in honour of his integrity.”

During the special sitting, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja promised to engage the executive arm of government, whose leader is Gen Museveni, on the matter, before she can return to the House with a response.
