The question of the wealth owned by fallen Bank of Uganda (BoU) governor Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has dominated public debate since his family revealed he had no private home in Kampala.

Mutebile died in Nairobi at the weekend. (Read story here, and a related one there).

According to his wife Betty, Mutebile’s family will be homeless if chased out of Mutebile’s official residence in Kololo. (Read story here).

But for a man who was BoU governor for two decades, and earning Shs50m, Mutebile is said to have left behind a lot of wealth in various properties spread across the country.

The following are the properties said to belong to Mutebile:

  • Kyahugye Island on Lake Bunyonyi
  • Hotel on Kyahugye Island
  • Apartments in Naguru, Kampala (reportedly leased to IMF)
  • Governor’s suite in Kabale
  • House in Kabale
  • 800-acre farm in Migadde
  • 1,000 cows
  • Dairy farm in Bombo
  • Farms in Kabale and Fort Portal
  • Luweero goat farm
  • Pine forest seated on 200 acres
  • Mansion and six other properties in Kololo
