President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has spoken out on a decision by National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to withdraw his presidential petition from the Supreme Court.
On February 22, Bobi Wine announced he had instructed his lawyers to withdraw his case from the highest court in the land.
He was challenging the declaration, on January 16, of incumbent President Museveni as president-elect.
Electoral Commission (EC) results show Museveni garnered 58 per cent of over 10 million votes cast, while Bobi Wine managed 35 per cent.
When news of Bobi Wine withdrawing the petition broke, Museveni’s NRM welcomed the development.
“Robert Kyagulanyi has withdrawn the election petition. Our President Kaguta Museveni’s victory is now unchallenged,” the NRM Party wrote on its official Twitter handle.
