National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has said that first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba cannot garner five per cent of the total votes cast in any Ugandan presidential election.

Bobi Wine was reacting on reports of proposed constitutional amendments to allow only MPs elect the president.

Available reports indicate that President Museveni’s government is in the process of introducing amendments, including a ban on universal adult suffrage for the presidential poll. (Read story here).

Now, Bobi Wine says Ugandans should not take the move lightly, adding that it was a plot to help President Yoweri Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba ascend to the presidency.

The singer-turned-politician also claimed he was certain Kainerugaba would not garner five per cent of the popular vote.

“The people of Uganda must not underestimate the new scheme — this is how all the past schemes started, including removing term limits and age limit from the Constitution,” claimed Bobi Wine.

“Of course, he plans to do this in order to impose his son on us, well knowing that he can’t even get 5% of a popular vote.”

The NUP leader urged his supporters to reject the move.

“Each one of us has an equal stake in this country. When we can, we shall, but don’t wait for us to tell you what to do. Think about what we can individually and collectively do to put an end to this madness,” noted Bobi Wine.
