Uganda’s State House has cleared the air on social media reports that longest serving President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni was critically sick, had been airlifted to Germany and that he had died.
The reports started from a deep fake NTV Uganda Twitter account.
“The President bof Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has reportedly been airlifted to Germany in critical condition after suffering from breathing complications, purportedly due to Covid19, according to his private doctor Dr Monica Musenero,” read the fake social media post.
A gang of Museveni’s haters started celebrating, and spreading the post.
But both State House and NTV Uganda have since flagged the tweet fake news.
“FAKE NEWS ALERT: Please, disregard this fake news post being shared and attributed to NTV Uganda and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” the leading television station.
“NTV Uganda has not shared any such information on any of its platforms. Beware of those using social media to spread Fake News.”
Also, according to Museveni’s senior press secretary Lindah Nabusayi, the president is alive and well.
“President Museveni is due to preside over a virtual World Health Summit today at Munyonyo,” said Nabusayi.
“Please disregard claims by idle minds peddling this. It’s fake news.”
