Lands minister Sam Mayanja has asked believers to pray for President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to rule Uganda until he dies.
Museveni, aged 77, has ruled Uganda since 1986 when took power following a bush war that left about half a million people dead.
Now in power for 36 years, Museveni will have ruled the impoverished East African nation for four decades by the end of his current term which he began in May 2021.
But Mayanja wants the elderly General to have more years in the country’s top office and only leave when he breathes his last.
“There is no doubt that God has given Uganda a God-fearing leader in the Name of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” said the minister during the graduation ceremony for 122 North Western Christian University students, held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Minister Mayanja said God has given Museveni King Solomon-like wisdom to rule Uganda. He then went on to list the attributes that he thinks make the head-of-state tick.
“He is that unique leader who spices his national addresses with spiritual nutrition. A President who has opened the doors of State House to national dialogue for peace and prayers for the Nation and the World. A President who has contributed materially to all religious projects which have been brought to his attention,” he said.
“His is a God given gift to Uganda. We need to constantly lift him before God in prayer including prayers for his family so that God may give him the knowledge of Solomon to continue governing this great Nation.”
