President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has described MPs’ conduct as akin to that of clowns, and Parliament as a theatre.
Museveni, also the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) national chairman, told new party MPs currently on a retreat at the National Leadership Institute (Nali) at Kyankwanzi on Thursday that Parliament and MPs had focused on procedural trivia.
“So for you to come here [Parliament] as MPs and you just sit, Members of Parliament, honourable, what! The whole day – standing, sitting down; point of order, point of information – you look like clowns in that Parliament there,” said Museveni.
“You are like in a theatre, just acting! Your people who have remained in the village are carrying water on their heads; you are just here wasting time. I am not happy with the way you conduct yourselves.”
The national chairman also advised the over 200 MPs-elect not to make mistakes made by their predecessors.
He warned them they would soon be voted out of Parliament if they concentrated on public relations issues such as attending funerals instead of focusing on finding solutions for constituents’ problems.
