With the new cabinet slated to take oath of office today, June 21, The Pearl Times News desk has learnt that presidency minister Milly Babirye Babalanda will not be among those swearing in at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Minister Babalanda’s doctors have advised her to stay away from the public for the next 14 days.
In a press statement issued this morning and signed by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, Babalanda confirmed she had made contact with a Covid19 contact.
Minister Babalanda emphasised that her condition was not worrying at all and that she would soon return to embark on her new duties after the end of the quarantine period.
“This is to inform the General Public that the Minister in-charge of the
Presidency Hon. Milly Babirye Babalanda is under quarantine having been in contact with a Covid19 Patient. Accordingly she will be in isolation for some period as advised by the
doctors,” read part of the statement.
“This means that she cannot take oath of office scheduled for today
Monday 21st June 2021.”
The statement added: “The Minister however assures the public and her colleagues that her condition is not worrying and she is expected to take the oath at a later date after the quarantine period.”
She wished her fellow Ministers a colorful swearing and promised to return after the mandatory quarantine period, to serve the government together with them.
“She wishes her colleagues a colorful swear-in event and promises to
join them after the quarantine.”
To the general public, Babalanda made an appeal to everyone to join President Museveni on the battle front against the pandemic which she called “a real threat now.”
Under the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health regarding coronavirus, one is mandated to stay in quarantine for 14 days after coming in contact with a sick person.
This means that the earliest the new Minister is expected to appear in public is early or mid July.
