A senior minister and member of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government has said that first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is not a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Gen Muhoozi has recently emphasized that he will stand for president to replace his father in the 2026 presidential election. He recently said he is tired of waiting forever, telling his father to give way for him to take over. (See Details Here).
Now, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, and NRM Vice Chairman for Western Uganda, says that Museveni’s son does not belong to his father’s political party.
“General Muhoozi is not a member of NRM. He is a serving military officer. This is the position of government. What he is doing to politick is not correct and he should abandon it,” said Baryomunsi during Thursday night’s NBS Frontline.
This was not the first time Dr Baryomunsi was emphasizing this government position on Muhoozi’s relationship to his father’s ruling NRM.
Appearing on the same show, government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said all questions about Muhoozi should be forwarded to Gen Yoweri Museveni, the Commander in Chief (CiC) of the armed forces or Gen Mbasu Mbadi, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
“You can’t ask individual NRM members to answer questions about Gen. Muhoozi because he is a serving military officer. If you want to ask the government, you can engage the Commander in Chief or CDF,” said Opondo.
Months ago, a former Museveni spy claimed that Muhoozi was creating a criminal gang to overthrow his father Museveni. (Read Story Here).
