MUSEVENI MINISTER DROPS BOMBSHELL: Government to Plant Spies at Nyege Nyege Festival

Ugandans and other entertainment lovers hoping to enjoy this year’s edition of the Nyege Nyege Festival might need to be a little more careful after the Minister of Ethics and Integrity reportedly revealed that there was a plan to plant spies at the event’s venue in Jinja.

Last week, Members of Parliament led by their Speaker Anita Annet Among sought to block the 2022 Nyege Nyege Festival over concerns that it has been promoting immorality in the country.

But Speaker Among’s orders to stop Nyege Nyege Festival were overruled by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who said the event would continue amidst tightened security and surveillance to ensure that acts of immorality are not tolerated.

As had been planned, Nyege Nyege Festival, which is expected to be attended by thousands of Ugandans and revelers from outside the country, will take place from September 15 to September 18 at the Itanda Falls.

But as the countdown to the start of Nyege Nyege continues, Ethics and Integrity Minister Rose Lilly Akello has hinted on a plan to plant spies at the event’s venue.

Minister Akello was quoted as telling KFM that the reason for the decision to deploy these undercover agents, who might look like any other people who will be at the event to enjoy themselves, is to record evidence to prove whether or not the festival promotes immorality.

The Kampala-based radio station further quoted Akello as telling them that in these ‘spies’ land on evidence to prove that Nyege Nyege Festival promotes immorality, then it will be the end of this event.

“They are not free to do anything because last Friday, the Minister of Ethics and Integrity and then the Ministry of National Guidance had a meeting with them and these guidelines were given to them,” Akello was quoted as telling KFM.

“They told them they are supposed to abide, if they fail, this event will be stopped.”

It should be remembered that government has issued tough conditions that will be followed at the Nyege Nyege Festival to ensure that the event does not become a hub of immorality. (Read Story Here).
