Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has said he is ready to hold dialogue and talks with his 2021 election challenger Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP) lost to Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the January 14 poll.
Museveni has told France 24 host Marc Perelman that Bobi Wine and his NUP had benefitted from foreign funders but his NRM had managed to defeat them.
“The political actors who were misusing those young people were definitely agents of foreign interests. Originally they started off as an internal group because of our own internal issues but then they get recruited by external actors,” said Museveni.
“That’s how his movement failed, that’s why he was defeated. He was defeated, you must have had something called defeat? He was defeated in spite of cheating.”
He further told France 24 he had no problem with holding talks with Bobi Wine under a dialogue arrangement.
“We are always dialoguing with those groups including Bobi Wine if he wants. We have invited them to what we call the IPOD, the inter-party group,” said Museveni.
“Others have come, I didn’t see Bobi Wine.”
