Museveni Government Breaks Silence on Reports of Salim Saleh Visit to Rwanda; Blasts NBS TV Journalist

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s Government has spoken out on reports that the commander-in-chief sent his younger brother Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh to Kigali to meet President Paul Kagame over Rwanda-Uganda relations.

The reports of Gen Salim Saleh’s alleged visit came weeks after first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba returned from a meeting with Kagame, resulting in the reopening of the Katuna (Gatuna) border point a week later. (Read Story Here).

Now, Museveni’s Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has dismissed reports of Gen Saleh’s visit to Kigali.

It also punched holes in NBS reporter Canary Mugume’s claims of the planned visit by Saleh.

The Ministry made it clear no visit would by Saleh would happen soon.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to categorically state that the information circulating on social media about the above-mentioned visit is not true,” said the Ministry in a statement.

“For the record, there is no planned visit to Kigali by General Salim Saleh as purported by the NBS journalist through his twitter handle @CanaryMugume.”

The ministry further warned against fake news and reporting that could affect efforts to restore relations between Kampala and Kigali.

“Uganda and Rwanda are doing everything possible to normalise their bilateral relations but are also mindful of some members of the public whose actions could derail the warm and cordial relations being cultivated between the two countries,” further read the statement in part.

“The Ministry calls upon all responsible members of society to desist from circulating false information that is devoid of facts.”
