President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has agreed to unconditionally release and compensate at least 51 supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for revealing miscalculators’ secrets to security agencies.
Museveni made the announcement on March 05 during the summit of the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.
The president told the summit, attended by Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) boss Jimmy Akena, that he would ask the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to be lenient to more suspects.
“I have agreed with the presidents of the parties, that apart from the 51 who will be released unconditionally and also assisted to settle because they have helped us to know more about the schemes of these miscalculators,” said Museveni at the summit boycotted by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
“There are others who were arrested and taken to court martial, I will ask the DPP to review each case and recommend soft landing for many of them, because many of them were misled, and separate them from the misleaders.”
