A looming cabinet reshuffle is giving Ugandan president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s ministers sleepless nights as the elderly head-of-state and government reportedly does final touches on the list of politicians to kick out of his cabinet and the new ones to bring on board.

The mid-term cabinet reshuffle has been expected for months, making many ministers to go slow, be more careful and calculative so as not to end up winning themselves space on the dark pages of Museveni’s revered cabinet list book.

For years, Museveni’s cabinet reshuffles have been preceded by a retreat to his country home in Rwakitura of Kiruhura District or farms such as Kisozi. Museveni is also known to reportedly consult his family members, the notable ones being his wife, First Lady and Education Minister Janet Museveni, as well as his younger brother Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Gen Salim Saleh.

Reports suggest that some ministers could be serving their last days on Museveni’s cabinet. Those worried are particularly those involved in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.

While ministers Goretti Kitutu, Amos Lugoloobi and Agness Nandutu are still battling court charges. Other big wigs such as Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker Anita Among and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja had been named in the scandal. At the heat of the scandal, Museveni threatened to punish his ministers who had stolen ironsheets meant for the people of Karamoja. (Read Details Here, There and Over There).

STATE HOUSE ON MUSEVENI CABINET RESHUFFLE

Some people had begun claiming that Museveni had already announced a cabinet reshuffle and that the list was already out.

But State House Uganda, through deputy presidential press secretary  Faruk Kirunda, has come out to clear the air on Museveni cabinet reshuffle and list of ministers.

Kirunda further confirmed that Museveni was yet to shuffle his cabinet as alleged.

“The General Public is urged to disregard information circulating and purporting a Cabinet reshuffle  by H.E the President,” the deputy presidential press secretary wrote.

“No such reshuffle has been carried out. In case the Appointing Authority reshuffles his Cabinet, you will be informed through the official channels.”
