Museveni Cabinet Approves Salary Increment for Science Lecturers, Teachers, doctors

President Yoweri Museveni’s cabinet sitting on August 23 has approved a proposal to enhance salaries for health professionals, science teachers, tutors and lecturers in public universities.

ICT and national guidance minister Chris Baryomunsi told reporters at the Uganda Media Centre on August 24 that the move to increase salaries was meant to build a knowledge-based economy in the broader science-led development strategy.

“I would like to tell you that Cabinet approved the proposed pay enhancement for scientists, health professionals, science teachers and scientists in public universities,” said Baryomunsi.

The new salary enhancements will take effect in the 2022/2023 financial year.

The Museveni government also plans to pay professors Shs15m per month, senior medical consultants Shs17m, university lecturers Shs12.2m, and fresh doctors Shs5m.

Minister Baryomunsi also revealed that cabinet noted the progress made by Uganda in bidding to host the East Monetary Institute as a precursor to hosting the East African Central Bank.

Cabinet had also noted the strategic interventions geared towards the improvement of the level of broadband connectivity and affordability in the country.
