President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s younger brother Godfrey Aine Kaguta Sodo has pulled out of Mawogola North parliamentary race in favour of foreign affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa’s daughter Shartis Nayebare Musherure.
Aine Sodo’s decision came after meetings between the Musevenis and the Kutesas, who are related through marriage.
News of Sodo’s withdrawal from the race came hours before January 14 elections.
Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) had no candidate in the race.
The party primaries tribunal and the Central Executive Committee (CEC) failed to resolve the poll dispute after Musherure challenged Sodo’s victory.
Sodo even sued the NRM for refusing to hand him the party flag despite winning the primary election in Mawogola North.
The primary election had been postponed over violence.
