Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has said his fiercest critic Dr Kizza Besigye would now be a hero like biblical Jesus if he had killed him.

A former personal physician for Museveni in the five-year bush war that brought the current government to power I’m 1986, Dr Besigye fell out with Museveni at the start of the milenium.

Since 2001, Besigye challenged his former boss in four consecutive elections, losing according to Electoral Commission results, but complaining he was rigged out.

Although his FDC has lost its position as the main opposition party in Parliament to singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s NUP, Besigye remains Uganda’s most revered opposition leader.

Now, Museveni has told Parliament, Besigye would now be a hero like Jesus if he had killed him.

“If I had killed Besigye, he would be a hero in the memory of the people. That’s how Jesus became a hero,” Museveni told MPs gathered at Kololo Independence Grounds for the budget speech.

The president argued political assassinations are done by people who aren’t confident of their ideologies.

He added that he respects other people’s viewpoints, and there’s no need for killing them for not believing his.

“It’s people who are bankrupt and not sure of themselves who use assassination,” continued Museveni.

“If you are right, I join you, if Iam right you join me. Why should I kill u because we don’t agree with me.”
