Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) leader Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu has advised President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni on how to handle the issue of his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s security role and apparent presidential ambitions.
Maj Gen Muntu, a former army commander for the UPDF, says that while Lt Gen Kainerugaba has a right to run for president, there would be problems if the first son was allowed to start chasing his political dreams while still a serving army officer.
“Gen Muhoozi has his own right as a Ugandan citizen to exercise that right as a Ugandan and run for any political office. The only problem I see if he is really interested in running as a President of the country, Gen Museveni who should be more experienced in these matters, should have first released him from the army,” Maj Gen Muntu told NBS.
“The moment you let Gen Muhoozi who is in uniform, a serving officer, trying to project him for politics, you are literally trying to drag in the whole national security apparatus, something which has its own problems.”
At the weekend, Lt Gen Kainerugaba celebrated his 48th birthday.
The first son said the celebration was not about him. (Read Story Here).
Muhoozi also seemed to reveal his plan for the youth. (Read Story Here).

Muhoozi has since revealed when he will retire from the army. (Read Story Here).
