Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) 2021 presidential candidate Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu says a bloodless transition would be incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s most precious gift to Uganda.

President Museveni has ruled Uganda since 1986 when took power following a five-year bush war.

On his ascent to power, Museveni diagnosed the problem of Africa as leaders who overstay in power.

Nearly 35 years at the helm, Museveni is seeking to extend his rule to four decades.

Museveni has failed to honour his word on leaving power.

Years ago, he told NTV Uganda he would not want to be in power beyond the age of 75.

He told show host Patrick Kamara the framers of the 1995 constitution had rightly capped the presidential age limit nat 75.

Yet by the close of 2017, Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) rode on their majority in Parliament to knock the age limit from the country’s supreme law.

Now 76, Museveni is seeking reelection for another term

Muntu is worried Museveni could miss out on a chance to give Uganda her first peaceful political transition.

Speaking in Fort Portal City on November 26, Muntu wondered why Museveni had not considered giving Uganda the gift she has yearned for since Independence.

Muntu says the greatest achievement any leader can make is to give the country a bloodless transition.

Ahead of his Thursday campaigns in Fort Portal City, Kabarole and Bunyangabu, Muntu attended morning mass at St Charles Lwanga Town Parish.

“Whenever I get the opportunity, I pray for the one thing that has eluded us as Ugandans for 58 years: to have the sitting president hand over power peacefully.”
