Mukula: Bobi Wine’s MDD diploma can only take him to theatre, not State House

Capt Mike Mukula, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairperson for eastern Uganda, has punched holes in National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s ability to win state power.

Campaigning for incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni during a meeting at Mbale Secondary School, Capt Mukula told youths that Bobi Wine’s diploma in music, dance and drama (MDD) only made him fit for the theatre.

“Someone with a Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama wants to lead this country called Uganda! This is not a theatre,” Mukula.

Besides his diploma warned from Makerere University, Bobi Wine is still pursuing a law degree.

In fact, it was during his law classes at the International University of East Africa (IUEA) that he met now NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya.

Rubongoya was Bobi Wine’s lecturer before the singer-turned-politician left IUEA for Cavendish University.

Mukula has previously downplayed Bobi Wine’s chances of beating Museveni.

Until 2017, Bobi Wine was only a musician. But things changed when he won a parliamentary seat previously held by Apollo Kantinti of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in the Kyadondo East by-election.

Now, the singer-turned-politician is one of the 10 opposition candidates seeking to end Museveni’s almost 35-year rule.

The other contenders include Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) of the FDC, the president’s bush war comrades, former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) and ex-security minister Lt Gen (Rtd) Henry Kakurugu Tumukunde.
