Muhoozi: I Have Never Dreamt of Becoming President

Muhoozi: I Have Never Dreamt of Becoming President

Muhoozi Kainerugaba

First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has now said he has never wanted to be Uganda’s President but has the interest of ‘our generation’ at heart.

Since 2013 when former spymaster Gen David Sejusa (formerly Tinyefuuza) hinted on an alleged plan to eliminate top military and government officials opposed to the ‘Muhoozi Project,’ political observers have been arguing that it’s only a matter of time before President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni helps his son succeed him.

Over the years, Museveni and his son have denied the presence of such a project, with the president saying the power to choose the country’s leaders was in the hands of Ugandans who would go the polls to elect a head-of-state.

But the first son would later say that while his enemies wanted to use the ‘so-called Muhoozi Project’ to destroy him, his generation had turned the intended curse into blessings.

A group of people say he is their generational leader and the right person to succeed his father Gen Museveni who has ruled Uganda since 1986 after taking power following a five-year bush war that left hundreds of thousands of Ugandans dead.

In April and May 2022, Muhoozi seemed to be coming out to declare his bid for president. He held countrywide parties to celebrate his 48th birthday, in which he hinted on his plan for the youth. He used his Twitter account to make political statements, for which he has been sued since he is still a serving military officer.

Now, Muhoozi says becoming president has never been his dream. He adds that he wants to see his generation fulfill its interests.

“A lot of people keep asking me if I want to be President? I have never dreamed about it!” said Muhoozi.

“All I want and what we will struggle for and definitely achieve are the interests of our generation.”

The opposition has criticized any alleged plot to help Muhoozi succeed his father Museveni. Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye even said that the first son was illegally recruited into the army and promoted. (Read Story Here).

Erias Lukwago, Besigye’s deputy at People’s Front for Transition, said that Muhoozi was a very reckless general with nothing but a birth certificate showing Museveni as his father. (Read Story Here).

NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has told Muhoozi that the only thing he can inherit from Museveni are his cows. He also told the first son to stop referring to him as his brother. (Read Story Here).
