MTV Base has postponed the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) ceremony just 16 days before the date it was expected to take place in the Ugandan capital Kampala on February 20, 2021.
“MTV Base is postponing the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards,” read a short statement published online February 04 evening.
MTV Base didn’t give any reason for the postponement but promised to “keep fans updated as we have more news.”
In recent weeks, supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) have been pressurising MTV Base to condemn alleged human rights violations against the party’s members.
It is not clear if the TV giant will change the venue of the awards ceremony from Kampala.
For now, fans will await an announcement.
