Mityana Municipality MP Francis Butebi Zaake says his treatment in the US will last at least six weeks before he can return to Uganda to resume his parliamentary duties.
Zaake left Uganda for the US last month.
He has previously been involved in scuffles with security officers, sustaining injuries that he said required specialized treatment abroad.
Zaake says he is “carrying out intensive outpatient- activities in different hospitals” and that “expert medical doctors diagnosed me with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that is usually triggered and at the same time worsened by the torture ordeals I have been subjected to by Police and the military on several occasions.”
He is seeking to have his eye problems fully resolved so that he will not wear glasses again.
“As for my eyes, I am being well treated, observed, and examined by different eyesight professionals including an optician, optometrist and ophthalmologist. I was diagnosed with corneal abrasions (‘bruises’) where the cornea, the outermost layer of the eye, was injured by the chemical substance that security sprayed in my eyes as they arrested me in April 2020,” he claims.
“I am now using antibiotic eye drops and creams which I apply three times a day so that I completely regain my eye-sight such that I won’t have to use glasses anymore.”
He also offered an update on the treatment for other injuries, expressing hope of complete healing sometime in April 2021.
“As for my leg, physicans are spontaneously controlling the paralysis in the muscle nerves, and gradually handling the alignment of my legs,” he added.
“I expect to fully recover in about 6 weeks from now. Hopefully.”
