Police has arrested main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) spokesperson and MP Ibrahim semujju Nganda almost a week after they nabbed him for holding an illegal meting.
Ssemujju’s party said police picked him from Kireka where he was vetting FDC candidates who expressed interest in the party’s flag for district leadership positions.
FDC added that Ssemujju was held at Kireka SIU.
“This is a clear indication that the FDC is not allowed to carry out any political activities as Museveni Ministers continue to conduct rallies,” the party complained.
Since March 2020, political meetings have remained banned as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid19.
Last week, police arrested Ssemujju, also the Kira Municipality MP, in Kasoko for carrying out a party activity in preparation of the 2021 elections.
Ssemujju’s arrested happened on the same day Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng held a procession in Lira where she has already expressed interest in contesting as Woman MP.
Also opposition chief whip in Parliament, Ssemujju complained that security was suffocating the opposition and allowing ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) members to keep holding meetings.
He had called for Aceng’s resignation. But the Minister said she would not resign, saying she had done no wrong.
Aceng also said the Lira incident taught her a big lesson. She further called on politicians to prepare well in order to observe standard operating procedures even in regulated meetings.
