MP MWIJUKYE HEALTH CONDITION: Opposition Legislator to be Flown Out of Uganda for Treatment

Opposition MP Francis Mwijukye is expected to be flown out of the country for better treatment for head injuries.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga says the Territorial Police in Greater Bushenyi and Buhweju CPS are investigating circumstances under which  Mwijukye, the Buhweju Constituency from the FDC party, was attacked and injured, while responding to a land conflict on the at 3:30pm on May 12, 2024  at Nyakishana Sub-county.

Enanga adds that Mwijukye had obtained a complaint from church goers at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church and other members of Rwamabare Farmers Association, who claimed their church was at a risk of being removed or demolished by Frank Kamugisha, a neighbor with whom they are in dispute over the church land.

At the scene, continues Enanga, the MP was attacked by a rival group, armed with sticks. It was during this “violent confrontation” that Mwijukye sustained serious injuries to the head and was rushed to Nsiika Health Centre IV by police for medical treatment.

“The public should know that legislators are representatives of their constituents and shoulder the responsibility of Parliament. Therefore, any threats of violence against legislators, is an attack on the core of our democracy. These acts of impunity against our legislators will not be tolerated,” warned Enanga.

The Pearl Times understands that Mwijukye had arrived late for his Sunday appearance on a Radio West political talk show. When he arrived, he told co-panelists about the wrangle over the land in Buhweju and said he would return after the show.

It was there that he was attacked and injured. Because Nsiika Health Centre IV could not handle his condition, he was rushed to Divine Mercy Hospital from where he was taken to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.

Now, he is set to be flown to Nairobi Hospital in Kenya for further treatment, according to reports.

During parliamentary plenary on May 16, Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda tasked Speaker Anita Among to explain what her office was doing to ensure that Mwijukye got proper treatment and Makindye East legislator Derrick Nyeko who was arrested for being in possession of UPDF attires gets back his freedom.

“Nyeko’s home was raided, I don’t know by which clan but all the clans of security were there. At the time they raided his home, his wife was there and went through the traumatic experience, people asking civilian to produce military attire. I want to request Government to explain steps that have been taken since Mwijukye was attacked and then their health,” submitted Ssemujju.

Speaker Among said: “Hon. Mwijukye since he got hurt in the brain, we have to send him for further medication and examination; it was really a bad one.”

MP Francis Mwijukye has previously survived death on a number of occasions, including accidents and suspected poisoning. See Details Here.
