Moses Ali: Uganda still needs Kadaga; country is peaceful because of her

Deputy prime minister Moses Ali has declared his support for Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga’s third term bid, saying Uganda still needed her and that the country was peaceful because of her.

Speaker since 2011 when she took over from now Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Kadaga is seeking re-election to head the 11th Parliament.

She is facing competition from her fellow NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) member and deputy speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

When Ali attended an Iftar dinner Kadaga hosted by Kadaga at Parliament on April 16, Ali said Kadaga was experienced and still resourceful for Uganda.

“I am not a foreteller to predict the future but I am a contributor and I think we still need you Madam Kadaga,” said the deputy prime minister.

Ali added that MPs need to give the perennial Kamuli Woman MP another chance at the legislative arm of government’s top job since “the country’s peaceful and united because of Rt. Hon. Kadaga.”

Most pro-Museveni government officers consider the president’s continued stay in power as a guarantee of peace and stability.

In 2017, Kadaga led the House to remove the constitutional age limit clause to allow Museveni run for president beyond the age of 75.

Museveni begins his next five-year term of office next month.

By the end of his new term in 2026, the former rebel leader will have ruled Uganda for four decades.

He further praised Kadaga for her “dedication” and her cooperation with him as deputy leader of government business in Parliament.

“I have worked with her for sometime,” the general continued.

“Kadaga is experienced and done her best for Uganda. We need to maintain you, madam.”
