More trouble for Ntagali as Reverend demands Shs500m from him for sleeping with his wife, impregnating her

Days after he publicly apologized for committing adultery with a reverend’s wife, former Anglican Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali is being asked to pay Shs530m in damages and legal costs or risk being dragged to court.

Last Thursday, Ntagali apologized in front of Anglican bishops and other clergy at Namirembe Cathedral as the Anglican Church marked 60 years of self governance.

“On Christmas Eve 1974 as a young man I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ, and I still love the Lord because he has loved me and I have loved to serve him over the years. Sadly, I fell into sin of adultery and I confessed to the Lord to forgive me and I want the church to forgive me,” Ntagali confessed.

“My brother bishops, all our partners, brothers and sister in the vineyard of the lord, the entire church of Uganda and all our partners all over the world and the family Rev Christopher his wife Judith, the two families please forgive me. And I want to remain closer to Jesus.”

But now, Rev Christopher Tugumehabwe’s lawyers say they will use this as proof that Ntagali committed adultery with Judith Tukamuhabwa.

“We have also recently learnt from various media platforms of the fact that, you admitted to having committed an offence of adultery with our client’s wife,” Tugumehabwe’s lawyers say in their intention to sue.

“In addition, we have overwhelming video and audio evidence in proof the same.”

They accuse Ntagali of encouraging Tukamuhabwa to ask for divorce before Kabale Magistrate’s Court on claims of cruelty, barely two years since she was joined in marriage with Rev Tugumehabwe.

They have now given the former Archbishop 14 days within which to pay Tugumehabwe Shs500m as damages, and Shs30m as their legal fees or else prepare to face them in court.

They also want the Archbishop to apologize to the Reverend.

“Your unbecoming, sinful and unlawful conducts have occasioned our client general damages to wit- loss of dignity, marriage break down, stress, trauma, embarrassment, loss of privacy… and minimal chances to rise in the clergy ranks,” they asserted.

“Should you fail to comply with the above demands made therein with in a period of 14 days from the date of receipt of this notice, we have been given “a green Iight” by our client to drag you to court at your own cost, detriment, further embarrassment and peril.”
